Jorge Nigro was born in Rosario, Argentina in 1942.

At the age of 10, he started a 3 year classical drawing class.
At the age of 14, he attended the School of Visual Arts,
the official Art Academy, of Buenos Aires.
At that time, the academy was dedicated to the “Bauhaus” tradition.
For four years he studied drawing, graphics, sculpture, painting, philosophy,
history of art, composition systems, morphology and geometry.
From 1966-69, he lived in Montevideo and belonged in that period to the school of Torres García , “Escuela del Sur”. Here he studied García´s philosophy of art,” Universal Constructivism”.
His teacher was José Gurvich, disciple of Torres García.
Gurvich has been particularly important for Jorge Nigro´s development as an artist. Through his tutelage he came to understand that art is the telling of stories,
the importance of precision, simplicity, and finding inspiration in popular daily life,
but most of all, he learned to work with joy, an Hassidic principle and the
fundament of Gurvich´s own art.
After these formative years, he embarked on his own journey,
entering into a dialogue with real life.
For more than 10 years he worked in an intimate, analytical, realistic style.

In 1983 Nigro came to Denmark, and since then his art has been strongly
influenced by his meeting with European culture, which he has incorporated
into his very own style.
Since 2000, Jorge Nigro has been organizing and reducing his motives
to 12 basic symbols which are in tune with nature and seasonal cycles .
He is constantly examining and reworking these themes.
His pictures have roots in Pre- Columbian, Latin American,
and Classical European tradition.
Since 1971, Nigro has exhibited in Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Copenhagen.
He has also illustrated a number of Latin American anthologies of poems ,
as well as participating in numerous projects and workshops.
